1.

In the world in which you loved me

we listened to Schubert’s 5th performed

by The Kabul Philharmonic, then drove breathless

to the beach in Muswell Hill

in my pimped, soft-top Austin 1100.

2.

In the world in which you loved me

we ate fried broccoli from the Saturn branch

of Woolworths, then sweet-smiled again as we remembered

tasting Spurs’ fifth successive Super Bowl triumph

at the 5D cinema in Mordor.

3.

In the world in which you loved me

President Bill Murray declared a national

Day Of Mourning for all the white mice

who’d died defending freedom, and your mum –

still three years younger than you –

stopped wearing that coat.

4.

In the world in which you loved me

the July hurricanes fell until June

and we bought the last kind man

from eBay just as the internet closed forever.

5.

In the world in which you loved me

there was no such thing as a child’s death

and no such thing as hope or wish

because every day was blue and soft

and every night wore silk and wine.

6.

In the world in which you loved me

there was no other world

in which you loved me.
